How does now>press>play work for children with hearing aids or cochlear implants?
The good news about headphones is that you can generally use them in a normal manner though it may require some adjustments and considerations depending on specific setup and hearing needs.
Below are some steps to consider to help pupils with hearing impairments access a now>press>play Experience. It is important to note that they are a guide only, and it is the school’s responsibility to ensure that the solution works best for the individual child and their needs.
First port of call is to test the equipment:
- Can the headset go over the hearing aid?
- Is the headset comfortable or do you need to adjust the position?
- Have you adjusted the volume dial on the headset to ensure appropriate levels?
- Is the child’s hearing aid producing abnormal feedback?
If the headset does not fit comfortably over the hearing aid or cochlear implant, or the child is experiencing feedback, then there are other options we can explore. Solutions are dependent on the specific setup and hearing needs. Please refer to the attached guide for more information.
